In this century, average global temperature may increase more than two degrees C, possibly quite a bit more. This will cause mass water/food shortages, and totally shift the weather of particular areas. A full scale mobilization to prevent this 2 degree gain is a necessity, but most people don’t worry about something that isn’t affecting them directly in the immediate time frame.
We need to make an effort people.
A grouping of international scientists made steps in improving the production of cultured meat, or meat produced by cells requiring no animal products. The scientists use a photosynthetic process to produce the cells needed with algae. This process of producing cultured meat utilizes totally renewable energy and is proven to greatly reduce greenhouse gas production, land, and water use.
The science that it takes to go into this sort of thing just makes me grin.
In collaboration with the Office of Naval Research, the Marines at Camp Smith, Hawaii are testing a new creation that can reduce a 50 gallon bag of waste to a half pint of ash. Micro Auto Gasification System, also know as MAGS, is designed to meet the need for a compact, solid-waste disposal system for both ships and shore facilities. MAGS bakes the trash into ash and collects the gases produced from the baking trash as a fuel to run itself.
This is ground breaking. The idea of a transportable, and efficient trash disposal that in the process of ridding the waste creates its own biofuel is just wonderful. The applications for such a product are endless.
Score 1, Marines.
Score 0, Trash.
